Frankie Lily is a singer/songwriter raised in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Growing up she was heavily influenced by the dance culture which lead her to go on to study music in Edinburgh.
The track has that amazing summer vibe we all love. We caught up with Frankie recently to find out more about her and the track and to see what she has coming up in the pipeline!!
Hey Frankie, So for those that haven’t heard of you or Esspea yet can you give us a quick intro on your self and how you got in to making music?
Hello! Firstly feel honoured you’ve asked me to do this! It’s all making this very real and exciting for me
I think I always had this dream of writing my own music and having it played all around the world, no matter how many times I was forced to believe getting a 9-5 was the way of living, I just knew I had the capability of creating the future I’ve always wanted. My family are musical, My great uncle was the guitarist in Suzi Quattro which is pretty cool! My mum and dad both have amazing music taste, it got me into a lot of different genres at a young age! people were listening to Basshunter and Cascada. I was in the corner listening to The Smiths haha
I started posting some covers on YouTube when I was about 13, Some of my videos got over 70,000 views which is just insane, I got a lot of support on YouTube. It gave me that confidence I needed to keep going. Looking back, that took a lot of courage l! I admire that young girl just going for it no matter what people thought! That’s defiantly something I carry with me and urge everyone to do the same. If you wanna do something, don’t let the opinions of others stop you. I think everyone secretly knows what path they should take, their calling. Just make sure you don’t lose that, no matter how scary!!
I studied music in Edinburgh, Met my boyfriend at the time, we started up a indie electronic band, then after splitting up that’s when I decided to find a new path. It was a scary time actually, I felt like find my place and it was ripped away from me. That’s when I wrote my first song called ‘Take me In’ Edinburgh opened my eyes to electronic music, something just clicked,
I knew writing alongside DJ’s was the kind of music I wanted to make. Seeing people dance to your music is a buzz I want forever.
Stefan (Esspea) was DJ’ing at the bar I worked in and said he had a song and needed a singer. I popped over and the rest is history!
So we got told about your new tune that has just been released called Untouchable! We are loving this track so how did it all come about? Have you been working on the track for a while?
Hearing the fact you all love it honestly means the world! We’ve had this in the books for about a year. Ever since we’ve posted some teasers on Instagram I’ve had people begging to release it!
We nearly didn’t release it due to the pandemic. No one was able to dance. That whole campaign of finding another job if you’re in the music industry was very scary, Trying to break through in this industry, it’s not what you want to hear. I wanted to put a big middle finger up and prove there is always a time and place for music. The lyrics are quite fitting, ‘I wanna be untouchable, untouchable to you’
I wrote the lyrics when I split up with my boyfriend. He made me feel like I was never good enough. The only way to prove him wrong was leave, focus on myself and become untouchable to him. I know a lot of girls can relate!! So anyone that’s struggling to move on from a toxic relationship? Leave, focus on you do everything you’ve dreamed of and become untouchable to them! Trust me it’s the best payback!
What is next in the pipeline working on any other tracks we should look out for?
Oh yes!!! The first ever track that Stefan and I worked on together – ‘Take me in’ There is something so magical about it so we’ve decided to tweak it and re-record it, it’s got the same vibe of Untouchable, so you’re gonna love it!!! You can find it by following us on socials- @frankielilyy @esspeamusic and of course we are on Apple Music and Spotify!
